Lost a Dog
If you have lost a dog
Losing your dog is stressful but thankfully most dogs are found within two hours of being lost and within a quarter of a mile of the location that they became lost.
Walking and talking is the easiest way of finding your dog during this initial period.
Lost for more than two hours
If your dog has been lost for more than two hours, don’t worry most dogs in this period have been taken in by a person and is being cared for.
Unfortunatly most people who find a dog don’t know who to contact and it make take them some time and research before they discover it is the Local Authority Dog Warden.
You should also contact your Local Authority Dog warden to report your dog lost. They keep all the dogs that have been seized by them for at least seven days before sending them to a rehoming centre.
There is no official centralised database for lost and found dogs but the most commonly used site is doglost.co.uk
You should also contact your microchip provider, again there is no centralised database but there are six registered providers in the UK.
Lost for more than seven days
Sadly the chances of you finding your dog are greatly reduced as it is likely to have been kept by the finder or passed onto a third party without being reported found.
Reassuringly most dogs continued to be well looked after by their new keepers.
